Method
Step 1 of 9
In a bowl, dissolve the sugar with hot water and add 2 tablespoons of oil into sugar syrup, then crack the egg and beat until well combined and set aside.

In another bowl, sift in the baking powder, flour and baking soda, still until well mixed and make a well in the centre.

Pour the first mixture into the well and start mixing and kneading until it forms a dough.

Rest the dough for a minimum of 30 minutes, covered with a wet towel.

Roll out dough and form it into small balls.
Step 6 of 9
Dip the balls into a bowl of water and coat them with white sesame seeds. Do the same for all the dough.

Heat up a pot of vegetable oil under high heat. Once the oil is hot, drop the balls, and reduce the heat to low-medium.
Step 8 of 9
Deep fry until the balls float and turn golden brown. The balls will crack open, you'll know they're completely cooked once they start to float and turn golden brown.
Step 9 of 9
Drain on paper towel and get ready to serve.

300g Plain flour
120g Castor sugar
3 tbsp Hot Water
2 tbsp Vegetable oil
1 no Egg
1 tsp Baking powder
½ tsp Baking soda
Sesame seeds as needed
Vegetable oil as needed (for frying)
